Trip to Utah

Dusty and I went to visit my family in Utah for the week of the 24th of July. My dad's side of the family has a tradition where they go to the rodeo in Spanish Fork, Utah on the 24th, so we thought that it would be a perfect time to go! Here are the highlights of our trip.

We split the drive to Utah into two days. On Friday we just needed to make it to Boise and on Saturday we would go the rest of the way. I was so excited to eat in Boise that Dusty took a picture. We got stuck in extra construction traffic and that added an extra 2 hours to our trip. We tried to stop a few places on the way but everything in the little towns that we passed through was closed. I've never been so happy to see an Olive Garden as I was in Boise!

We found the spot where I had to pee so badly on the drive to Pullman that I started calling everyone I know to distract me.

Saturday:

Saturday morning we got up to finish our trip. Dusty had some pretty memorable quotes as we drove through Utah. "Dear Utah, please stop rock chipping your roads. Sincerely, your first world neighbors, the United States", he also said, "That's my stop" as he rolled through and intersection, "that's how much I respect the law here". He was on a roll with witty quotes.

Sunday:

On Sunday we went to visit our best friends Lyman and Amanda. They made us a wonderful picnic and we played with their slack line in the park. 

The next week Lyman got accepted to medical school so they moved to Oregon. Now they're only 6 hours away from us :) 

Monday:

We went swimming at the pool where Rebekah works. We spent the first little bit going down the slide. On the way up, Alaina turned to me and announced, "The baby in my belly needs to be baptized". Alaina spent most of the week telling me about the baby in her belly. It was so cute!! 

After going down the slide for 30 minutes straight I spent most of my time laying on the lawn chair. 

Tuesday:

We went shopping in the morning and then went on the Sundance moonlight tram ride. Alaina was so cute and followed me around the fabric store. She would pick up her basket and move every time I needed to move to a new isle. It was so cute to have a little shadow!

Wednesday:

We went to the parade in Spanish Fork with my grandparents. Alaina and I had tons of fun taking goofy pictures on my phone.

Thursday:

In the morning we made strawberry, raspberry and blackberry jam. I've never made jam before and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. After that we went shopping for baby things... I love shopping for baby things!

Friday:

Christopher had state swimming so we went up to Kerns to see him swim. He did really well! Between his races we went to In and Out for a family dinner.

Alaina found a cowboy hat in the book store and ran around calling herself Woody. 

Saturday:

My mom, sisters and their neighbor Cindy threw me a baby shower. It was so good to see people I grew up with and talk to all of my friends. Afterwards we went shopping (again!!!). Later, my sisters and I painted nails while my mom tried to pack all of my stuff. 

Alaina tucked my mom in after the shower while we were waiting for a few latecomers. 

We bought Alaina a new purple hair flower and she loved it!!!

It was so great to see my family. I can't wait for November when we get to go back! 

Hiking Kamiak Butte

Back in June, Dusty and I decided to hike Kamiak Butte. We ended up hiking just over 4 miles since we accidentally switched trails a few times. It was lots of fun but I was exhausted for a few days after it. I don't think that i'll try to go hiking again for a while.

32 Weeks....

I am starting to feel like a WHALE!!! Dusty keeps looking at me and laughing at how huge I've gotten recently (not in a mean way, though). Last week we got a bonus ultrasound at the doctors office just to make sure that everything was looking ok. When we went in for my doctors appointment my uterus was measuring a few weeks small and the doctor was a little surprised. So he scheduled another ultrasound for the next morning. The ultrasound tech was much nicer than she was during our last ultrasound, and everything looked just fine. Lily is measuring right on schedule, and I was a little low on amniotic fluid, but not enough for them to be concerned. We didn't get another picture, though, because she face-planted into the placenta as soon as the tech tried to look at her face. She is going to be a little drama queen haha. The tech had me move around to try to get her to move but she liked her placenta too much to move. At least we know that she is the right size even though we didn't get to see her pretty face. Oh, and they confirmed that she is definitely a girl (we've seen her girl parts so we know, too)!

Baby White

For years Dusty and I have been telling our friends and family that we've got a five year plan and that kids don't fit in until the end but I guess it turned into a three year plan...  We're so excited that we get to welcome our little girl, Lily, sometime around September 6th.

January 7, 2013

I was feeling a little gross so I decided to take the pregnancy test that I had in my bathroom. I lost the sheet that told me how to read it so I couldn't tell if it was positive or negative but I decided that It had to be negative since a year or so ago our doctor had told us that we'd probably need help having kids.

January 10, 2013

I was still nauseous and felt like puking all of the time, so I decided to go buy some pregnancy tests with my co-worker Erin during lunch. We went to her house for lunch and I decided to use one. It came back with inconclusive results. I decided that meant I wasn't pregnant. I was talking with one of my co-workers about it later and my boss Fran came in. After listening to our conversation she said that she was certain that I was pregnant and recommended that I take another test the next morning. She said that she could see in my eyes that I was pregnant... I don't know what that means, but obviously she was right.

January 11, 2013

I still hadn't started my period yet and it was about 2 weeks late so I decided i'd try another test. It was positive. By this time, Dusty had come in, and he told me that if I took enough tests I was bound to get a positive one eventually so he told me to take another one. Three tests later we decided that we were probably pregnant. Dusty was super excited and all I wanted to do was puke... Which I did.

February 11, 2013

We had our first doctors appointment. They couldn't find her using the ultrasound on my stomach, so UP the wand went. Her heartbeat was 172 and everything looked great! I couldn't keep any food down so the doctor gave me some anti-nausea medication. Amused, Dusty offered to buy me a "wand" for home use.

February 24, 2013

We started telling our friends and family that we were pregnant. Dusty had a super hard time keeping it a secret so I let him tell everyone he wanted. By this point I'd lost about 12 pounds and still was having a hard time keeping food down even with the medicine. 

March 31, 2013

Around week 17 I finally started being able to keep food down and had gained some of the weight back. It was still a couple of weeks before we found out that we were having a girl and at this point we (Dusty says it was just me) were pretty sure that it was a boy. 

April 23, 2013

Ultrasound day! We almost didn't get to find out what she was because Lily was asleep and curled up in a ball for almost the entire ultrasound. The ultrasound tech had me roll from side to side and get up and do toe touches to try to wake Lily up, but she wasn't having any of it! She finally woke up with the hiccups up for the last 5 minutes of the ultrasound and moved just enough that we could tell she was a girl. She was trying to hide her lady parts and be modest... I'm not sure where she got that from being related to Dusty and I, but we'll love her all the same. Her heartbeat was around 154 and everything still looked great!

First baby shower. Some of the girls in our married ward were so nice and threw me a shower. It was super fun! Of course I forgot to take pictures of it though... At this point I weighed as much as I did pre-pregnancy and I could still fit into all of my normal jeans.

We went to Seattle for Jake's homecoming. Grammy (Dusty's grandma) was nice enough to take a few family pictures for Dusty and I. About this time I finally had to start wearing maternity clothes, but at least we were in Seattle where there are actually stores that sell maternity clothes, unlike here in Pullman. About this time we noticed that Lily only likes my right side. She rarely goes over to the left, and if I try to sleep on my right side she starts squirming and kicking until I move back to my left. She also started kicking sometimes when we'd say her name. I'm not sure if that is just a coincidence but it's happened multiple times, so I'm just going to pretend that it means that we have a super smart baby that knows her name already.

Welcome to the third trimester. We're finally to the last part of this (long) journey. We can't wait for Lily to get here! She has to wait until the middle of August though so that Dusty can go to Hawaii for his sister's wedding! 

That's our journey so far. Reflecting back on it, it hasn't been that bad. Besides being sick for the first 20 weeks or so I haven't had any complications and everything has been great at all of our appointments. I haven't really had any cravings besides captain crunch around week 12 or 13, and that might just have been because that's the only thing I could keep down. We're SO excited for Lily to get here and hope that it continues to be smooth sailing! 

Spring Break 2013

Since BYU doesn't have spring break, this was our first spring break together! We went to Seattle to stay with Dusty's brother Cole while his parents were in Mexico. It was super relaxing and I had a hard time coming back to reality. We visited the hospital, went to the Seattle Science Center, had dinner with friends, saw my mom and brother and just hung out with Cole. 

Dusty laid on the floor for a while, denying that he needed stitches until he could finally see how bad his head really was

Dusty cut all the way through the scalp layer to the fat. You could see his hair follicles from underneath  which really impressed him!

I found the ugliest shoes ever while we were shopping! I'm pretty sure that they belong to Barney the Dinosaur. I almost bought them to send to Maggie but DSW still wanted $70 for them!

 We went to the Seattle Science Center with our friends and their three kids. It was super fun but I was exhausted by the end of the day. I don't think I am anywhere near ready to be the mom of multiple children yet!

Christmas 2012

Dusty and I love quiet holidays! We both love our families but nothing beats spending Christmas in our own quiet little apartment. We opened presents in the morning, video chatted with our families around noon and then went to our friends house for dinner. It was a perfect Christmas and we were totally spoiled!

Fall 2012

Our fall consisted in a lot of football. We went to almost every WSU home football game and usually sat within the first 15 rows. It was a change from BYU football but I thought that the students weren't as bad as we'd been told. We also went to Seattle a few times but I can't find the pictures from those trips.
